How do I renew my domain names? Print

How to keep track and renew my domain(s)

With Encode you always have the opportunity to renew your domain names, utilize the auto renewal function and keep track of your domains as you see fit.

Encode, by default, automatically renews your domain names for your security and peace of mind. This will be for the same period of time that they were purchased initially, unless you advise us otherwise. We will continue to send you a reminder 30 days before your domain is due for renewal as usual.

Simply follow the instructions below and you will be more in control of your domain names.

I wish to:

  1. manually renew my domains
  2. extend my renewal period
  3. I don't want my domains to auto-renew

Some domain names have different rules, including their renewal terms, we’ll cover these in this article, but please feel free to contact us if you have any questions.

I wish to manually renew my domains

  1. The first step is to logon to go to your Encode Control Panel and navigate to Domains => Renew Domains from the top menu.
  2. Select Renew Domains.
  3. All your domains will appear as a list, simply select from the drop down arrow box your preferred period of time, add to cart, it will appear on your order summary and move on to View Cart, it is as easy as that.

I don’t want my Domains to auto-renew

Select My Domains from the Domains navigation menu as before, your domain will appear in a new page

  1. Select My Domains
  2. Select the domain you would like to review
  3. Select Auto Renew from the Manage drop down menu located on the left
  4. Click the Disable Auto Renew button

As always, if you are a current customer and have any questions, please do raise a support ticket

Additional Information

Important notice for .eu domain holders

You must renew your .eu domain name before it expires to avoid a quarantine status and a £75+VAT renewal fee. If you let your domain expire, you will need to pay the renewal fee and the quarantine fee to retrieve it.

Important notice for .com / .net / .org / .info / .biz domain holders

When a domain's renewal date passes without renewal, it enters a disabled state and redemption period that typically lasts between 30 and 90 days. Renewing the domain during this time will incur an extra fee. If the domain remains unrenewed 5 days after the redemption period ends, it becomes available to the public for registration once again. Please note that for .com and .net domains, any changes to contact details and nameservers are not allowed in the 7 days leading up to the renewal.

Important notice for .de / .im / .pl / .mx / .nl/ / .ws / .ae / .es domain holders

Payment for these domains needs to be settled no later than 3 days before the expiry date. If your account has up-to-date payment information, the payment will be automatically processed at that time. However, if payment is received after the deadline, the domain may either be cancelled by the registry or subject to a redemption fee.
